Description

Clarence House Guest House

Clarence House Guesthouse was bought and founded by the late Mr Thomas Slevin in 1962 and is now 46 years in business.  The house itself is 106 years old as it was built in 1899.  It is an old Victorian town house, which was a private home, owned by the late Mr Hazlet, until it was taken over and converted into a guesthouse and run by Mrs Eleanor Slevin until she retired in 2002.

It was originally the only guesthouse or bed & breakfast in the city, then in the late 60's early 70's Mr & Mrs Thomas Slevin established Ardowen Hotel, just two minutes away from the guesthouse.  After six years, however, it was the last hotel in the city to be bombed as part of the troubles. Following this, we returned to Clarence House and have been here ever since.

We are well known throughout the city and further afield.

We can now proudly announce that we are the longest established Guesthouse/B&B in the City of Derry.  Coming soon are pictures of Ardowen during and after bombings in L'derry.

The hotel and guesthouse were frequently regarded by business-people and several film crews (including; RTE, BBC, UTV & ITV) and the same people continue to visit us today.  Over the years we have also accommodated many television celebrities, theatre companies, comedians and musicians.  This is largely due to the fact that we are located close to the BBC Radio Foyle and the University of Ulster (Magee College).

Travellers have also visited us from all over the world and we owe great thanks to the local community who have helped build up our reputation through out the years.

Since 1st February 2002 after the retirement of his mother, the guesthouse today is now run by Michael Slevin, who will always have a warm welcome for everyone.

We are a fully licensed guesthouse and have been awarded three stars by the NITB and AA Hotel Service.  In the future We aim to continue to offer the excellent standard that has come to be expected of us by our customers.

We are five minutes away from the Republic of Ireland and beautiful Donegal with its wonderful golf and fishing right on our doorstep.

We are so lucky to have these wonderful facilities and many more so nearby and hope that you can find time to come and enjoy them all!
